About Me

Hi! I'm Marcel Kapfer and I compose classical music.

Up until high school I wasn't very interested in classical music at a all. But there my training started a a school with a musical orientation and so I studied the piano as well as participated in the different school choirs. During the first years I focused much on the older epochs of music and only discovered contemporary styles when I was about 16 years old.

Listening and studying the music of especially Philip Glass not only encouraged me to focus more on the art form but also inspired me to learn more about music composition and finally led to my first piece.

After finishing high school time with an A level in music (with the piano as my instrument) I started studying computer science (for some arbitrary reasons) which sadly required much of my time. Therefore, during these years I mostly focused on practicing to at least keep my skills. But this left even less opportunities to work on my compositions. However, I discovered music from many more contemporary composers like Johann Johannsson, Dustin O'Halloran and Max Richter during that time.

Following my university studies I started working which enabled me to spend more time in creative projects. Therefore, I also have more possibilities to focus on composing new pieces and finishing the ones I already begun.
